Harold D. Rider Family Media, Science and Fine Arts Center Recognized

The newest edition to Elgin Academy's campus has been recognized by The Conservation Foundation of Naperville, Illinois with a Sustainable Development Award.  The Conservation Foundation has been protecting and promoting the good stewardship of lands for more than three decades, all over northeastern Illinois.  The project has also won a Green Building of America Award by Real Estate & Construction Review.  The Rider Family Media, Science and Fine Arts Center is seeking LEED Gold certification.  As of late 2008, only 15 schools in the United States have achieved Gold-Level recognition.

The new building provides students with an innovative educational experience and features state-of-the-art math, science, music and art classrooms, a television studio, student commons and a technology-driven library and media center.  The building was designed and constructed following green and sustainable principles, creating a high-performance, highly energy-efficient and environmentally responsible facility.
