Renovating a historic building is a delicate process, requiring a balance between upgrading facilities and preserving a legacy. Pepper completed a multiple-phased restoration and renovation of the 1927 hotel including exterior upgrades, meeting room and ballroom restoration, new kitchen, dining and bar area and upgrades to more than 900 guest rooms. The building’s legacy was preserved through Pepper’s attention to detail, including relocation of the original hand-forged, peacock-motif bronze doors — the signature of Chicago’s first incorporated business, C.D. Peacock — to the redesigned Monroe Street entrance. The massive renovation project encompassed 1,800,000 square feet of the hotel to ensure guests throughout the hotel can experience the luxury of the past with all the amenities of today.
