A complete renovation of the landmark Hotel Wacker, originally built in 1926, Pepper converted the existing apartment hotel into an upscale boutique hotel in Chicago’s River North neighborhood. The renovation turned the existing 12-story building into a 242-key hotel known as Hotel Felix and included the addition of a new elevator and stairwell. The new infrastructure is more environmentally friendly, including in-room motion sensors to control heat and A/C, water waste-reducing plumbing, fluorescent lighting and wind turbines on the roof. The hotel is the first in Chicago to achieve LEED Silver certification and is slated to save nearly $100,000 per year in energy costs due to the improvements.
