When HSBC needed to upgrade its regional headquarters, it looked to Pepper to create a space that fit their needs and reflected the company’s long-standing commitment to the environment and sustainability. The building features office space, a health club, a 2,000-seat auditorium, a non-denominational prayer room and nearly 90 meeting rooms each equipped with world-wide teleconferencing capabilities. The 575,860-square-foot facility achieved LEED Gold certification. The largest contributor to LEED points was the structural design and positioning — the “H” shape, with an east and west wing, is situated to allow natural light to enter 70 percent of the building. In addition, parts of the roof are planted with vegetation and all electricity used in the building is bought from renewable or non-carbon-emitting resources, setting an example for sustainable corporate office buildings.
