The Columbus Zoo embarked on the first phase of renovations in its North America region, the zoo’s oldest section, originally developed in the early 1980s. This revitalized area highlighted America’s backyard wildlife while emphasizing the importance of conservation and sustainability.
The project included upgrades to the habitats of swans and songbirds, river otters, bald eagles, black bears, and Mexican wolves. Additionally, improvements to infrastructure included newly designed pathways to enhance the visitor experience, providing a more immersive journey through natural landscapes enriched with native plants and updated educational signage.
Throughout construction, the zoo remained fully operational, ensuring that guests could continue to enjoy the exhibits while improvements were underway. The reimagined North America region delivered a modernized, engaging, and conservation-focused experience for visitors, reinforcing the zoo’s dedication to protecting wild places and inspiring future generations.
