Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden

Creative, drone-enabled modeling put this ambitious project on track quickly.
The Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden is an unparalleled, immersive environment committed to conservation, education and the community. It’s been called the world’s greenest zoo, and it’s also America’s second oldest, dating to 1875. The new master plan, “More Home to Roam,” outlines not only new experiences and exhibits but also transforming existing buildings. The ambitious goal: Achieve net-zero energy, water and waste by 2025 when the project completes.
Our first job was to help the zoo, its donors and the community envision the projects’ intricacies. We used drones and other reality capture methods to safely laser scan key areas of the campus, then quickly transformed the scans into a virtual 3D campus BIM model.
