More than just construction: A new view
Designed with the animals’ well-being at the forefront, every element from carved rockwork to custom dens and dynamic water features was built to foster enrichment, safety and connection. With contributions from specialty teams across Pepper Construction—including MEP coordination, high-performance strategies and safety expertise—this project was made possible through seamless collaboration between our Columbus team and zoo specialists across Pepper offices.
The grand opening marked more than just a construction milestone. It represented a new chapter for the Zoo, its guests and the community it serves.
Full Circle: Wes' Story
For Senior Project Manager Wes Brown, the North America Trek was more than just a professional achievement; it was deeply personal. “I grew up going to the Columbus Zoo with my family,” he shares. “When I joined Pepper, I never imagined I’d help build something this close to home.”
Through Wes’s eyes, we witness the full-circle nature of this project. From early construction meetings to the final installation of habitats, his hands helped shape a place his own children now get to experience with wonder and joy.
