Pepper Construction of Ohio Columbus Office Awarded Prestigious Well v2 Silver Certification

Local contractor’s office space provides employees a heathy environment that also promotes wellness and productivity

COLUMBUS, OHIO – October 18th, 2022  Pepper Construction recently announced that it has been awarded WELL v2 Certification at the Silver level for its Columbus office, located in VanTrust Real Estate’s Blazer Tech I development in Dublin, Ohio. The prestigious distinction was awarded through the International WELL Building Institute’s  WELL v2 program, the latest version of the WELL Building Standard.

WELL is the premier building standard to focus on enhancing people’s health and well-being through the buildings where we live, work and play. The project is one of only two WELL-certified buildings in the state of Ohio, and the first to be WELL v2 certified in Ohio.

“We chose to pursue WELL Silver Certification because we wanted to build something that would help our people perform at their best while celebrating and supporting our team,” said Paul Francois, President of Pepper Construction of Ohio. " The WELL Building Standardfocuses on the health of a building as well as the health and wellness of its occupants. Pepper’s mission is to improve people’s quality of life through the built environment – and our Columbus office delivers on that promise."

Created through seven years of rigorous research and development working with leading physicians, scientists, and industry professionals, the WELL Building Standard is a performance-based certification system that marries best practices in design and construction with evidence-based scientific research. Pepper’s Columbus office earned the distinction based on ten categories of building performance — Air, Water, Nourishment, Light, Movement, Thermal Comfort, Sound, Materials, Mind and Community — and achieved a Silver level rating.

Project features that helped the headquarters achieve its WELL v2 Certified Silver rating include:

Pepper’s office space totals 17,500 square feet with 14,500 square feet of office space and 3,000 square feet of warehouse.  The shift to an open office concept improves collaboration and teamwork while also providing sufficient closed space for meetings and "heads down" work.  A large multi-purpose room adjacent to the café is located in the center of the space, providing the perfect area for training, entertaining and all company meetings. The office, fitted with state-of-the-art technology, keeps Pepper at the forefront of innovation in the industry.

WELL is grounded in a body of evidence-based research that explores the connection between the buildings where we spend approximately 90 percent of our time, and the health and well-being impacts on the people inside these buildings. To be awarded WELL Certification by IWBI, Pepper’s Columbus office underwent rigorous testing and a final evaluation carried out by Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI), which is the third-party certification body for WELL, to ensure it met all WELL v2 Certified Silver performance requirements.

In addition to being WELL v2 certified at the Silver level, our Columbus office employs multiple high performance strategies. This not only activates Pepper’s drawdown commitment and lowers their 0perating costs, it is making a positive impact on the environment. Across all offices, Pepper’s commitment has made measurable gains.
