When the Houston Zoo decided to renovate their Elephant House, they wanted to upgrade facilities while simultaneously increasing visitor access to the animals. The new facility provides individual bedrooms for five elephants and animal management facilities that allow the public to view the elephants while in their bedroom environment. Additional improvements include a hay storage area, a keeper area, and a shift/squeeze facility that allows for medical and physical attention including a digital scale for weight checks. Keeping the future in mind, the contract scope also included major site preparations for future zoo exhibits.
