Located in Racine’s Lincoln-King neighborhood, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center and Health Center project is one of the most significant investments that has been made in redeveloping this distressed Wisconsin community. In addition to providing residents with access to classrooms, computer labs and spaces for after-school and adult-education programs, the building will include a federally qualified health center to provide affordable medical, dental and behavioral health services. It will also be home to the city’s public health department. A recreation area will feature a large gymnasium, a running track and a climbing wall. Outdoor amenities will feature sports courts, a community plaza and open lawn space, giving residents a place to gather.

A mix of federal, state and local resources will be used to fund the project, along with donations from private organizations. The new Center will be approximately 50% larger than an existing facility, which will remain open until all services can be consolidated in the new space once construction is complete in the third quarter of 2026.
